(NEW COURSE) Baby & Pre-School

STA Swimming TeachingAim

The Baby and Pre-School qualification aims to produce teachers that can teach aquatic activities, including paddle strokes to babies and pre-school children during adult and children lessons, and deliver the STA Starfish programme, as well as the Teddy Bear awards and up to the STAnley Series of STA’s International Learn to Swim Programme.

Pre-requisites

  • Be of 18 years of age or older
  • Hold current membership with STA
  • Hold the Pool Emergency Procedures or acceptable equivalent
  • Hold either the Safeguarding Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults certificate
    (available online at www.trainsta.co.uk) or acceptable equivalent

Validity of Award
The qualification does not have an expiry date.

Safety Award For Teachers (QCF)

STA Life SavingAim

This safety award for teachers aims to train candidates in pool rescue, adult, child and infant CPR techniques competent to deal with poolside emergencies in accordance with The HSE Publication Managing Health and Safety in Swimming Pools and British Standard BS EN 15288 Part 2, Safety Requirements for Operations.

Pre-requisites

  • Be of 14 years of age or older
  • Be able to recover an object from the deepest part of the pool
  • Be capable of swimming 25 metres
    (candidates who cannot swim 25 metres must be capable of wading, and effecting a rescue, in a pool with a depth no greater than chest height).

Validity of Award
2 years.

Award in Swimming Teaching (QCF)

STA Swimming TeachingAim

The Award in Swimming Teaching aims to produce teachers that can teach up to 10 beginners. They may deliver the STAnley Series of awards and also the Octopus and Goldfish Series of STA’s International Learn to Swim Programme. They may also act as an assistant swimming teacher and may teach larger classes or advanced skills under the direct supervision of a swimming teacher qualified to certificate level.

Pre-requisites

  • Be of 16 years of age or older
  • Hold current membership with STA
  • Hold the STA Award in Pool Emergency Procedures or acceptable equivalent
  • Hold either the STA Safeguarding Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults certificate
    (available online at www.trainsta.co.uk) or acceptable equivalent.

Certificate in Swimming Teaching (QCF)

STA Swimming TeachingAim

The Certificate in Swimming Teaching aims to prepare holders to teach, without supervision, learners of all levels.

Pre-requisites

  • Be of 17 years of age or older
  • Hold current membership with STA
  • Hold the STA Award in Pool Emergency Procedures or acceptable equivalent
  • Hold the STA Award in Swimming Teaching or acceptable equivalent
  • Hold either the STA Safeguarding Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults certificate
    (available online at www.trainsta.co.uk) or acceptable equivalent.
